Is It Hot In Here?

An outdoor concert at first sounds like a pretty good idea. Get outside, enjoy the day, get a tan & get a buzz on. No problem.

Except when you combine 75,000 people into a relatively confined area, keep them there 10hrs, and assume minimal hygiene for many to begin with...things get a bit sticky. Okay, you sweat like hell sometimes. But if you're on stage, that's pretty much to be expected - if you're not, you're not working for it. So here's some shots of the Sweatiest Bands of Lollapalooza 2008.

Black Keys? Very Sweaty.

Cee-Lo from Gnarls Barkley? Oh Crazy Sweaty.

Cat Power? Not so sweaty.

Jack White playing with the Raconteurs? Sweatiest Man in Showbiz, people!

Sweatiest crowd? Those awaiting Rage Against the Machine. This was probably a good hour before the show even started. Most of the people in the front got pulled out because of the HUGE surge forward once the tunes kicked in.

Why Lollapalooza Kicks Bonnaroo's A$$

One reason that Lollapalooza is much better than the hippy-dippy fests littering the US is the fact that it is smack dab in the middle of downtown Chicago, whereas most others are in some random field in BFE. Which not only means it's easy to get more beer, you also get random cool shit happening.

Case in point: last year on Friday night Radiohead was playing a fantastic set, when out of nowhere we get a huge fireworks show going on behind them, courtesy of Navy Pier. Here's that rather lengthy set w/ some pretty good audio too.

SMFML Hits the Road

If you thought this site was too good to stay in 1 place too long - my friend, you are so right! So to that end, me & nips are taking this crap on the Road. Specifically, to Chicago. Why? Not just for the bright lights, big city & exotic women. No, our needs are more basic than that. We are going there for Lolla-Friggin-Palooza, starting this coming Friday afternoon.

That's right folks this is our 2nd time there & we are hitting it as grizzled veterans. With any luck we'll be able to post updates to SMFML throughout the weekend, assuming we don't drop our iphones in the toilet in a drunken stupor or, (more likely), get arrested. If you're going to be at the show, drop us a line. We might even let you buy us a beer.

For those who were able to make it last year, you are well aware the show to see was none other than Wilco. No actually that's total bullshit. It was of course Rage Against the Machine. Here's their opener from last year's show in Grants Park, which was pretty amazing.
